Frequently asked questions
How quickly can care start?
Often within a few days of your consultation, and sometimes sooner. If you need help urgently, for example for a hospital discharge, call us at (226) 506-7013 and we'll tell you straight away what we can arrange.
How much does home care cost?
It depends on the type of care and how many hours you need. At your free consultation we'll recommend a care plan and tell you exactly what it will cost before anything starts, with no obligation. Some private insurance plans and Veterans Affairs Canada programs help with the cost of home care, so it's worth checking your coverage.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
Care is built around what you need, from a few visits a week to around-the-clock support. We'll confirm visit lengths when we talk, before you commit to anything.
How are caregivers screened?
Before a caregiver is matched with a family, we interview them, check their references and training, and require a current police vulnerable sector check. We then match caregivers to each client by needs, personality and schedule.
Will we have the same caregiver?
We aim to keep the same caregiver, or a small consistent team, for every client. If a change is needed, we tell you ahead of time and introduce the new caregiver.
What areas do you serve?
Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek and Hamilton Mountain. If you're nearby and not sure, call (226) 506-7013 and ask.
Do you provide dementia care?
Yes. We provide calm, consistent in-home care for people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, with the same caregivers wherever possible and regular updates for the family.
Can you help after hospital discharge?
Yes. Call us as soon as a discharge date is being discussed. We can plan the first visits before your family member leaves hospital, and add private hours around any publicly funded care from Ontario Health atHome.
Can care increase as needs change?
Yes. Care plans are reviewed as things change, and hours or services can be increased, or reduced, without starting over with a new provider.
What happens if a caregiver is unavailable?
If your regular caregiver is sick or away, we arrange a replacement who has been briefed on your care plan, and we let you know who is coming before the visit.
