What Respite Care Includes
Every care plan is personal. These are the everyday tasks a caregiver can help with.
- A few hours of cover each week, on a regular schedule
- Day, evening or overnight visits
- Cover while you travel or recover from your own health needs
- Personal care, meals and companionship, following your routine
- A caregiver who is introduced before your first break
Signs Your Loved One May Benefit
- You haven't had a full day off in weeks or months
- You're missing work, sleep or your own medical appointments
- You have a trip, a surgery or a family event coming up
- You feel guilty about needing a break, and you need one
Planning respite before you need it
The best time to set up respite care is before you're exhausted. Starting with a regular few hours a week lets your family member get used to the caregiver, so a longer break later feels normal.
We'll write down the routine you already follow at home, so nothing important depends on your memory while you're away.

Respite Care: Common Questions
How much notice do you need for respite care?
The more notice the better, especially for longer breaks or holidays. For short-notice needs, call us and we'll tell you honestly what we can arrange.
Can respite care be overnight?
Yes. A caregiver can stay overnight so you can sleep, or cover several days while you're away.
How quickly can care start?
Often within a few days of your consultation, and sometimes sooner. If you need help urgently, for example for a hospital discharge, call us at (226) 506-7013 and we'll tell you straight away what we can arrange.
How much does home care cost?
It depends on the type of care and how many hours you need. At your free consultation we'll recommend a care plan and tell you exactly what it will cost before anything starts, with no obligation. Some private insurance plans and Veterans Affairs Canada programs help with the cost of home care, so it's worth checking your coverage.
Will we have the same caregiver?
We aim to keep the same caregiver, or a small consistent team, for every client. If a change is needed, we tell you ahead of time and introduce the new caregiver.
