What Companionship Includes
Every care plan is personal. These are the everyday tasks a caregiver can help with.
- Conversation, card games, walks and hobbies
- Meal planning and preparation
- Light housekeeping and laundry
- Grocery shopping and errands
- Company at medical appointments
- Reminders and a regular safety check-in
Signs Your Loved One May Benefit
- Your parent lives alone and is lonely or withdrawn
- Meals are being skipped or the fridge is empty
- Housework, laundry or groceries are falling behind
- You live out of town and want someone checking in
Staying connected in the community
Companionship isn't only at home. A caregiver can go along to a doctor's appointment, a trip to the grocery store, or a walk around the neighbourhood.
For families who live outside Hamilton, visits come with a short update so you know how your parent is doing between your own calls.

Companionship: Common Questions
Is companionship care just for people who live alone?
No. It also helps when a spouse is the main caregiver and needs someone else in the house for a few hours, or when a family member works during the day.
Can the caregiver help with personal care too?
Yes, if it's needed. Many care plans start with companionship and add personal care later. We'll adjust the plan as needs change.
How quickly can care start?
Often within a few days of your consultation, and sometimes sooner. If you need help urgently, for example for a hospital discharge, call us at (226) 506-7013 and we'll tell you straight away what we can arrange.
How much does home care cost?
It depends on the type of care and how many hours you need. At your free consultation we'll recommend a care plan and tell you exactly what it will cost before anything starts, with no obligation. Some private insurance plans and Veterans Affairs Canada programs help with the cost of home care, so it's worth checking your coverage.
Will we have the same caregiver?
We aim to keep the same caregiver, or a small consistent team, for every client. If a change is needed, we tell you ahead of time and introduce the new caregiver.
